Beijing Genomics Institute-Hong Kong (BGI-HK) and DNAVISION partner on next generation sequencing technology

Belgian Embassy in Beijing, November 23th 2009 – DNAVision one of the European leading genetic analysis service provider, and the Beijing Genomics Institute-Hong Kong (BGI-HK, a spin-off of Beijing Genome Institute at Shenzhen, which is the third biggest genome centre in the world) announced today that they have entered into a strategic alliance to increase its position in Next Generation sequencing field.

From the beginning of 2009, DNAVision, the only genomics company in the world to be ISO17025 accredited, CLIA certified, CAP accredited, GLP certified and GMP certified, is providing next generation sequencing on Roche GS FLX and Illumina Genome Analyser systems.
“We are glad about this alliance with DNAVision, We will provide fast, accurate, high quality sequencing and bioinformatics analysis to European researchers and accelerate the development of genomics.“

“We are delighted to enforce our position related to those technologies. Thanks to the alliance with the BGI-HK, we will speed up considerably our current R&D projects” said Jean-Pol Detiffe, CEO of DNAVision.

About Beijing Genomics Institute-Hong Kong (BGI-HK)
Beijing Genomics Institute-Hong Kong(BGI-HK) was established in 2008 and located in Hong Kong.

Beijing Genomics Institute (BGI) was founded in Beijing on Sept 9th, 1999 with the mission of supporting the development of science and technology, building strong research teams, and promoting the development of commercial scientific services.BGI has successfully completed a large number of projects. These include sequencing 1% of the human genome for the International Human Genome Project, contributing 10% to the International Human HapMap Project, carrying out research to combat SARS, being a key player in the Sino-British Chicken Genome Project, and completely sequencing the rice genome, the silkworm genome. In 2007, the headquarter relocated to Shenzhen. BGI-Shenzhen has completed the first Asian diploid genome and the cucumber genome project. Much of those researches have been published in the top international academic journals including Nature and Science. In conjunction with carrying out these projects, BGI-Shenzhen has established its own technical platforms based on large-scale genome sequencing, efficient bioinformatics analyses, and innovative genetic health care initiatives. These distinguished achievements have made a great contribution to the development of genomics in both China and the world.
